MADISON, N.J. - Reigning NCAA Women's Saber Champion Becca Ward took first place at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and was one of seven Duke fencers to notch top-10 finishes at the competition at Drew University.
Ward, who was Duke's top fencer in 2010 with a 63-1 record, was the top finisher out of 32 entries in the women's saber field. Freshman teammate Anthony Lin took second place in the men's saber competition while men's foil Dorian Cohen took fourth.
Women's epee Emily D'Agostino also claimed a top-10 finish by taking sixth. Duke had three men's epee fencers finish among the top-10 as well, as Robert Greer, Tristan Jones and Jonathan Parker finished seventh, eighth and 10th.
The Blue Devils will now await the announcement of the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championship selections for the tournament on March 25-28, 2010 in Boston, Mass., on the campus of Harvard University. Duke took five fencers to the 2009 tournament, including returnees Ward, Dorian Cohen and Parker.
