DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University women's soccer seniors Elisabeth Redmond and KayAnne Gummersall are each set for the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 15 at 10:00 p.m., at the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
Both Redmond and Gummersall each have a chance to get drafted by one of the nine WPS squads. The 2010 WPS Draft consists of seven rounds and 65 picks overall as the two expansion teams, the Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence, each received an extra selection at the end of the first round.
The current draft order for the first round is as follows, barring any further trades: 1. Atlanta Beat, 2. Boston Breakers, 3. FC Gold Pride, 4. Chicago Red Stars, 5. Los Angeles Sol, 6. Sky Blue FC, 7. Washington Freedom, 8. Los Angeles Sol, 9. Los Angeles Sol, 10. FC Gold Pride and 11. Boston Breakers.
Redmond, who is a product of Morristown, N.J., led the ACC and ranked sixth nationally in assists per game with a 0.6 per game average. She notched 12 assists in 20 games to go along with three goals and 18 points. Redmond's two game-winning goals also ranked tied for first on the Blue Devil squad.
In the ACC stats, Redmond ranked tied third in shots and third in shots per game with 79 and a 3.95 average, respectively, first in assists (12) and first in assists per game (0.60). Over her career, Redmond accumulated 35 assists, 26 goals and 87 points. She ranked second in assists, seventh in goals and fourth in points on the Duke career charts. Redmond's 14 game-winning goals also ranked third on the Blue Devil list.
Redmond earned NSCAA All-Southeast Region, All-ACC, TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season, ACC Co-Player of the Week, CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer, Duke/Nike Classic All-Tournament team and was on the preseason watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
A native of Wilmette, Ill., Gummersall led the team with 11 goals and 26 points, while also posting four assists and two game-winning tallies. She tallied her first career hat trick in a 4-1 victory over 13th-ranked Virginia Tech on senior day.
A true goal-scorer, Gummersall ranked 70th in the nation in goals per game (0.524) and 79th in points per game (1.24). She also ranked tied for sixth in the ACC in goals (11), sixth in goals per game (0.52), seventh in points (26) and seventh in points per game (1.24).
In her four years with the Blue Devils, she accumulated 34 goals to rank fourth all-time in the Duke record books, while her 79 points is fifth. Gummersall's 11 game-winning goals also ranked fourth.
Gummersall earned All-ACC, ACC Co-Player of the Week, Soccer America National Team of the Week and is a two-time CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer on season.
Last year, former Blue Devil Rebecca Moros was drafted by the Washington Freedom with the 36th overall pick. Moros had an excellent season in 2009 with the Freedom. Allison Lipsher joined the Boston Breakers as a free agent and won the starting job in goal early in the season.
