Two Blue Devils Named Academic All-America

DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke men's lacrosse player Max Quinzani and men's fencer Peter Truszkowski were each named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Quinzani, a junior attackman on the ACC Champion Duke lacrosse team, appeared on the Academic All-America second team, while Truszkowski, a senior saber on the fencing team, earned third team honors. With a 3.59 GPA as a History major, Quinzani earned his second straight Academic All-America citation, while Truszkowski, with a 3.74 GPA in Biology, appeared on the squad for the first time in his career.

Quinzani paced the Blue Devils in goals in 2009, tallying 46 goals and 57 points overall. A two-time USILA All-America third team selection, Quinzani registered at least one point in all 19 games in 2009 to push his scoring streak to a national-best 47 games. He posted at least three points in 11 games this season as he helped guide the Blue Devils to their third consecutive ACC Championship. The Duxbury, Mass., native scored a season-high six goals in a win over Holy Cross and posted four goals in the regular season win over No. 1 Virginia. Quinzani posted two-plus markers in 15 of his 19 games, including a four-point outing in the NCAA Semifinal game against Syracuse.

Earning All-ACC honors in each of the past two seasons, Quinzani anchored the man-up offense in 2009, finishing with 10 extra man goals. For his career, Quinzani ranks sixth at Duke in goals with 131 and 16th in points with 154.

In the classroom, Quinzani is equally impressive with a 3.615 grade point average as a history major. He earned ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2007 and 2008 and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree.

A native of Northfield, Ill. (New Trier), Truszkowski led the Duke men's saber team with a 36-13 record and took 16th at the NCAA Championships. A two-time All-America and a top-10 finisher at the NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2008, Truszkowski led Duke's saber team in wins in every year of competition and finished his career with a 163-57 record.

Also honored with an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship, Truszkowski was twice named to the Academic All-America At-Large All-District III Team, including in 2009 when he, Quinzani and men's tennis player Kiril Dimitrov each appeared on the first team. Truszkowski has also appeared on the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of his first three seasons and is in line to appear for a fourth time for the 2008-09 academic year.
