DURHAM, N.C.?Two former Duke University men's lacrosse players recently were named to the Major League Lacrosse All-Star rosters. Matt Danowski and Zack Greer both were picked as members of the Young Guns roster.
The MLL All-Star game format will be the “Old School” versus the “Young Guns”, which was originally featured in 2005. The event is scheduled to be played at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High on July 16 at 10 p.m. ET.
Danowski and Greer were reunited on the Long Island Lizards this season when the team picked Greer third in the 2009 MLL draft. Danowski was the first pick in the 2008 draft.
Joining the All-Star Team for the second consecutive season, Danowski leads the Long Island Lizards in points with 19 from nine goals, including one two-point score, and nine assists. His 19 points rank 10th overall in the league.
Greer is one of the top rookies in the league, tallying 13 points from 11 goals and two assists. He was named the Bud Light MVP after registering four goals and an assist in his first game.
Long Island sports a 4-2 record and is one game back of first-place Denver. The Lizards are off this coming weekend and return to action on July 4 against the Washington Bayhawks at 6:15 p.m.
In addition to the game, there are several fun activities and events planned in and around the Denver area in the days leading up to the Game. On Wednesday July 15th, MLL players, coaches, and staff will be at Skyline Park along the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver from 11 AM to 1:00 pm MT to teach fans about the game of lacrosse, participate in shooting games and much more. Later in the day, join your favorite MLL All-Stars for a Long Drive Competition at Green Valley Ranch Country Club. A $50 entry allows for 5 drives against an All-Star. Each contestant will receive 2 tickets to the All-Star Game and proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club. A Media Event is also planned for the evening.
On Thursday, fans will have the opportunity to lunch with select MLL All-Stars at the Brown Palace Hotel. The All-Star Game Fan Fair will begin at 4:30 PM MT on Sports Legends Mall outside INVESCO Field followed by a tree planting ceremony with MLL Founder Jake Steinfeld, Esurance, The Park People, members of the Denver Outlaws and their staff, several youth lacrosse teams and select MLL All-Stars. Further details for these events will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2009 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with Joe Beninati and Quint Kessenich calling the action. Halftime will include the Bud Light Skills Competition. Participants for the Skills Competition events will be announced at a later date.
