DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University seniors Brad Ross and Ryan McFadyen recently were selected to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-America Team for their work in the classroom and on the lacrosse field. Ross and McFadyen are two of four players from the ACC to earn the honor as Maryland and Duke were the lone two schools to earn spots on the team.
Athletes named to the team are seniors who carry a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and are a member of an All-America team or one of the North-South teams.
A three-time All-America selection, Ross was voted to the third team in 2009 after finishing with 21 goals and six assists for 27 points. The three-year starter in the midfield owns the NCAA career wins record, playing in all 72 of Duke's wins since 2005. He tallied his 100th career point in the NCAA Tournament win over Navy, becoming the 36th Blue Devil to do so. He closed out his career with 76 goals and 26 assist for 102 points.
McFadyen helped anchor the Blue Devil defense that allowed just 8.42 goals per game this season. A starter in all 19 games, the Mendham, N.J., native picked up 24 ground balls for the year. For his career, McFadyen played in 75 games, starting 44 and picked up 82 ground balls.
The duo of Ross and McFadyen helped Duke post a 73-14 overall record, advancing to the national title game twice and the NCAA semifinals four times, including each of the past three seasons. Duke finished 15-4 in 2009, earning a spot in the NCAA semifinals for the third consecutive year.
