DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke student-athletes Kiril Dimitrov, Max Quinzani and Peter Truszkowski were each named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Men's At-Large first team on Thursday.
Dimitrov, a senior men's tennis player from Sofia, Bulgaria, earns his first selection to the team. He is a three-time Academic All-ACC pick and was named to the All-ACC team in 2009 after leading Duke to a 16-9 overall record. He led the squad with a 26-16 singles record and played at the No. 1 doubles spot. He helped lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th straight season.
Junior men's lacrosse attackman Max Quinzani, a Duxbury, Mass. native, was named Academic All-District for the second straight year. He was a third team Academic All-America choice in 2008 and is a two-time Academic All-ACC selection. This year he was named to the USILA All-America third team, the second straight year he earned All-America recognition. He led the team with 43 goals scored, including 10 man-up goals. He has scored in 45 straight games to lead all active players.
Truszkowski, a senior on the men's fencing team received his second straight Academic All-District first team pick and was a second team Academic All-America last season. He is a two-time fencing All-America and earned a career-best eighth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships. He is a three-time Academic Honor Roll selection and was chosen for the ACC's Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship. He led Duke's saber squad in wins for three consecutive seasons, compiling a career record of 163-57.
All three student-athletes are eligible for Academic All-America honors after being named to the first team All-District team. The All-America teams will be announced June 9.
