DURHAM, N.C. ? For the second straight season Greg Paulus has been named an ESPN the Magazine Third Team All-America, becoming the sixth Blue Devil to repeat as an Academic All-America.
Paulus, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., has a 3.35 GPA and is on schedule to graduate with a degree in political science. He joins Jay Buckley (1963-64), Bob Fleischer (1974-75), Jim Spanarkel (1978-79), Mike Gminski (1978-80) and Shane Battier (2000-01) as Duke players who have earned the honor in back-to-back seasons.
This season Paulus has played in 27 games with four starts on the year. He is averaging 5.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the year. He ranks in the top 10 all-time at Duke in three-point field goals (9th, 205), three-point field goal percentage (5th, .400) and assists (9th, 462). He is also one of 58 players in school history with over 1,000 career points, ranking 40th with 1,173 points.
Other Duke players who have earned Academic All-America honors include Dick DeVenzio (1971), Gary Melchionni (1972), Quin Snyder (1989) and Mike Dunleavy (2002).
