"We are very pleased to have Pat join our staff here at Duke," Danowski said. "He has a strong coaching background after spending three years as an undergraduate assistant at Hofstra. He is a high energy guy who wants to be a coach and he will be a key part of our staff this season."
A four-year member of the Hofstra University men's lacrosse program, DeBolt brings with him valuable years of Division I lacrosse coaching experience with the Pride. After a successful scholastic career at Waterloo High School where he was a three-time Western Empire selection as a goalkeeper, DeBolt continued his lacrosse career at Hofstra in 2005.
Playing behind a senior goaltender as a freshman, DeBolt saw action in nine games in 2006. The following season he suffered a career-ending injury. Unable to get back in the cage, the native of Waterloo, N.Y. jumped onto the sidelines as an undergraduate assistant coach. He mentored the goalkeepers and faceoff specialists for the next three seasons, helping the Pride to a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship and two berths in the NCAA Tournament.
Under DeBolt's watchful eye in 2007, Hofstra goalie Danny Orlando led the CAA in goals against average and ranked sixth nationally in goals against average (7.21 g/gm), while the Pride finished the year with the sixth best scoring defense in the country.
In each of the next two seasons, the Pride placed second in the CAA in scoring defense and among the top 25 nationally. This past season DeBolt helped guide rookie goaltender Andrew Gvozden to CAA All-Rookie team honors after he posted a 9-4 record and an 8.38 goals against average.
During his four years with the Pride, DeBolt captured two CAA titles, earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament three times and climbed to the No. 2 national ranking.
He will officially graduate from Hofstra on Dec. 20, 2009 with a degree in physical education and is pursuing a lacrosse coaching career. DeBolt is active in lacrosse camps throughout the nation and is a founder of Shutout Lacrosse, which aims to provide the best tournaments, camps and lessons to young lacrosse players.
