DURHAM, N.C.-A trio of Blue Devils has been named to US Lacrosse's final roster for the 2010 U.S. men's national team that will compete in the FIL World Championship in Manchester, England from July 14-24. Former Duke players Kevin Cassese and Matt Zash along with current Blue Devil Ned Crotty were selected from the 41-man training team after three fall exhibition weekends.
Duke and Johns Hopkins were the only universities to have more than two players represented on the 23-man roster. Crotty is the lone current collegiate player to be selected.
The current head coach at Lehigh University and a midfielder for the Boston Cannons, Cassese was a member of the 2006 team that finished as a runner-up. The former Duke standout was a three-time All-America selection for the Blue Devils and served on the coaching staff as an assistant for one season.
Zash was a two-time All-America recipient and helped anchor Duke's midfield in its run to the NCAA title game in 2005. He also is a current member of the Long Island Lizards.
The 2009 USILA National Attackman of the Year, Crotty returns to the attack for his final season. He led the nation in assists, finishing the year with 78 points from 23 goals and 55 assists to earn All-America first team recognition.
The team's first appearance together will be at the 2010 US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore, Md., Jan. 15-17, followed by its first on-field competition together at the 2010 Champion Challenge at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. against Duke and Army, Jan. 30-31.
