DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke swimming & diving teams will return to action after a month-long break from competition when they host Davidson and South Carolina in a dual meet tomorrow, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion. Admission is free for spectators.
The swimming squads were last in action at the Gamecock Invitational Nov. 20-22 and the diving team competed at the Ohio State Invite Dec. 5-7. Over the winter break, the Blue Devils completed a week of training in Florida and last weekend took part in the non-scoring Orange Bowl Classic to round out the trip.
The men's team sits at 2-1 (1-1 ACC) so far on the 2008-09 season, while the women are 5-0 (3-0) through the first half of the season. The men were third of six teams at the Gamecock Invitational and the women third of seven last time out.
The Blue Devils have turned in one school record-breaking performance so far, coming in the women's 1650 free by sophomore Ashley Twichell, who broke the record by four seconds (16:06.76) in Columbia, S.C. Twichell has also turned in NCAA ?B' standard swims in the 500 and 1650 free, while Cody Kolodziejzyk, Shawn Hoffman, Abby Johnston, Jessica Lyden, and Julie Brummond have met NCAA Zone Qualifying standards on the diving boards.
In already facing the Gamecocks earlier this season at the Invitational, both squads finished behind South Carolina and will look for redemption at home.
The meet is being carried live on ACC Select and is available via www.ACCSelect.com and on GoDuke.com.
After this weekend, the teams are back in action next weekend in a 1 p.m. dual meet at Gardner-Webb Jan. 17.
