DURHAM, N.C. ? Rising junior Chance Pipitone, a member of the Duke men's golf team in 2008, has decided to return to the University of Pennsylvania to continue his education at the Wharton Business School. Pipitone began his collegiate career at Penn before transferring to Duke in January.
“I am leaving Duke because professional golf is really not what I want to do with my life,” said Pipitone. “If that is not what I am going to do then I need to prepare to get a job in a field that I like. I have the opportunity to go back to Penn and get the finance degree that I want. This was a difficult decision for me and was made with my academic interests in mind. Coach Vincent, my teammates and everyone involved with the Duke golf program are class acts and I could not have asked for a better group of which to be a part. The people I met and the relationships built will stay with me for a long time."
As a member of the Duke men's golf team, Pipitone played in five events and posted a 75.1 stroke average. The Houston, Texas native recorded a pair of top 5 finishes in ?B' tournaments for the Blue Devils. Pipitone shot a two-under 142 (69-73) to finish tied for third at the 2 Targets-Barton College Intercollegiate and placed fifth at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic with a one-under 143. Pipitone finished 75th at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate and tied for 52nd at the River Landing Intercollegiate in his two varsity competitions at Duke.
“Chance is a smart young man with a very bright future,” said head coach O.D. Vincent. “We are disappointed that he will no longer be a part of our program, but we support his decision and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
