DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke men's lacrosse team will participate in the 2009 Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic on Saturday, February 28 against Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md., announced on Monday by Inside Lacrosse publisher and 1996 Duke graduate Bob Carpenter
The contest between the Blue Devils and Terrapins will form a doubleheader with Johns Hopkins meeting Princeton.
"The Maryland game is always a special game on our schedule," said Duke head coach
John Danowski. "The Face-Off Classic makes it even more exciting for Duke to play what was already a special game. If we played against Maryland in a parking lot somewhere it would be intense. Playing this game in the Face-Off Classic makes it spectacular."
Inside Lacrosse also announced that it will host the first "Day of Rivals" on April 11, 2009 with a scheduled doubleheader of Army-Navy and Maryland-Johns Hopkins, also at M&T Bank Stadium.
"Inside Lacrosse is committed to adding more college lacrosse events that will re-create the energy and excitement that currently only exists at the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic and the Final Four," Carpenter said.
The Blue Devils are coming off last year's 18-2 campaign that included the ACC regular season and tournament championships along with the program's third trip to the national semifinals in the past four years.
