DURHAM, N.C. ? Duke first baseman Nate Freiman was taken in the 28th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft with the 843rd overall pick by the Texas Rangers.
A 6-8, 240 pound junior, Freiman becomes the 43rd Blue Devil in school history to be drafted after leading Duke with a .381 batting average, 11 home runs and 46 RBI during his 2008 campaign. A career .357 hitter, Freiman ranks second on Duke's all-time batting average list and is already tied for 11th on Duke's all-time home run list.
Additionally, two members of Duke's incoming freshman class were selected in the 2008 draft, including 15th round pick Eric Pfisterer and 24th rounder Brian Litwin. A left-handed pitcher and first baseman from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J., Pfisterer was taken 449th overall by the Cincinnati Reds, while Litwin, a third baseman and outfielder from St. Stephens High School in Hickory, N.C., was taken 714th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
