Blaum Wins Rain-Shortened Michelob Ultra Classic

LAKE MARY, FL -- Former Blue Devil All-America Ryan Blaum captured his third career professional win and second on the NGA Hooters Tour at the rain-shortened Michelob Ultra Classic (March 31-April 6). Rain and lightning forced Hooters Tour officials to suspend play Sunday afternoon and ultimately declare 3rd round leader Blaum the winner of the weather shortened 54-hole event.
Blaum, the 2005 & 2006 ACC Player of the Year, finished with a 15-under 201; three shots better than Derek Lamely, and four better than the trio of Rob Johnson, David Miller and Will Claxton. Blaum shot an opening round 65 (-7) before closing with a 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) to take home $33,566 in earnings.
“I've been hitting the ball really well,” said Blaum, who finished T-15 at the PGA Tour event in Puerto Rico three weeks ago. “My driver has been really working for me and with the tight fairways out here that was a big advantage.”
Blaum finished the 54-hole event with 16 birdies, two eagles and just three bogeys. The Coral Gables, Fla., native played the opening nine holes of the Magnolia Plantation GC at 11-under with nine birdies, one eagle and 17 pars.
The Hooters Tour will take a week off before starting up again in Greenville, N.C. for the Touchstone Energy Classic at Brook Valley Country Club.
Blaum is now leading the NGA Hooters Tour in earnings at $40,991 on the young season.
