BOSTON, Mass. - The Duke Indoor Track and Field team competed in the first day of the IC4A Championships at Boston University and the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center. Results can be found on www.ecacsports.com.
Women's: In the mile run trials, sophomore Emily Sherrard ran a personal best 4:56.16 on Saturday in Boston. That time placed her 10th and qualified her for the mile finals on Sunday afternoon.
In the 500m, senior captain Allison Stankavage placed 12th with a 1:15.23 clocking. That mark was just short of qualifying her for the finals, but gave her the fifth-fastest time in the event in school history.
Junior Molly Lehman continued her successful season with a fourth-place finish in the 1,000m trials. Her time if 2:52.11 will put her in the Sunday finals.
Wrapping up the day for Duke was the 4x800m relay team of sophomore Katie Doswell, junior captain Anna Farias-Eisner, sophomore Christen Harsha and freshman Devotia Moore. The quartet placed eighth in the event in 9:14.81, qualifying them for the finals on Sunday.
Men's: On Friday afternoon, senior captain John Brockardt turned in a strong performance in the 1,000m in Boston. Brockardt clocked in at 2:25.77, which placed fifth and qualified him for the finals in the event on Saturday afternoon. The time also registered as the second-fastest in Duke indoor history.
Freshman Ryan McDermott placed 15th in the 3,000m at the IC4A's with a time of 18:18.22. That speed is good for fourth place in school history and is a personal best for the native of West Hempstead, N.Y.
A Look Ahead: The Blue Devils still have nine events to compete in on Sunday in Boston. Next weekend, junior Maddie McKeever will represent Duke at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 14 in the 5,000m. The outdoor season begins March 21-22 at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C.
