DURHAM, N.C.?Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski recently announced the Blue Devils' 2009 schedule. On tap for Duke this season are 10 home contests, six contests against 2008 NCAA Tournament teams, and seven teams ranked in the final Inside Lacrosse top-20 poll.
Highlighting the schedule is a match up with ACC rival Maryland in Inside Lacrosse's third annual Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Feb. 28. The slate also features home contests against 2008 Ivy League Champion Cornell and ACC rival Virginia.
The 2009 season kicks off at home on Feb. 14 when the Blue Devils host Bucknell University for the second consecutive year. Duke stays in the Patriot League for their next opponent Colgate on Feb. 20 and faces off against Ivy League foe Harvard two days later.
Danowski and crew take to the road for the first time on Feb. 28 at the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic. The Blue Devils tangle with ACC rival Maryland at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for groups of 10 or more, $20 for lower level seats, and $30 for Club level seats. Duke is 16-51 against the Terrapins, but has won three of the past four meetings.
Duke returns to the friendly confines of Koskinen Stadium on March 3 to host Holy Cross and continues the three-game home stand continues with games against Loyola and Yale on March 7 and March 8, respectively.
The Blue Devils resume ACC competition on March 14 when they make the eight mile trip to Chapel Hill take on North Carolina in the annual Carlyle Cup meeting. The challenges continue the next week when Ivy League Champion Cornell and ECAC Lacrosse League foe Georgetown visit Durham on March 17 and March 21, respectively. Duke faces off against Dartmouth a week later at Stony Brook University.
The Blue Devils conclude their ACC schedule on April 11, hosting Virginia at 1 p.m. Duke edged the Cavaliers 11-9 in the ACC Tournament Championship game in 2008 and is 18-48 all-time against the conference rival.
After six days of rest, Duke kicks off the ACC Tournament in Chapel Hill. The semifinals are set for April 24 with the title tilt coming on April 26. The Blue Devils close out their regular season schedule on May 3 with a trip to take on St. John's. Duke is 5-1 against the Red Storm since the first meeting in 1983.
The Blue Devils captured the ACC regular season and tournament titles in 2008, finishing with an 18-2 record. They earned their 12th NCAA Tournament bid in 2008 and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals before falling to Johns Hopkins 10-9.
