DURHAM, N.C.?The 22nd-ranked Duke University men's soccer team will close out its non-conference schedule this weekend when it plays host to Northern Illinois. The Blue Devils and Huskies will kick off at 1 p.m., on Nov. 2 at Koskinen Stadium.
This will be the first meeting between Duke and Northern Illinois. It is the eighth meeting in all for the Blue Devils against current Mid-American Conference Teams. Duke is 6-1 all-time against the conference. The team took on MAC team Florida Atlantic earlier this season. Duke heads into the game on a four-game unbeaten and shutout streak after a 1-0 blanking of Colgate this week. The Blue Devils are 9-5-2 overall on the year and 6-2-1 on their home field. Senior forward Mike Grella paces the offense with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points. Temi Molinar has two goals and four assists for eight points, while Nick Sih pushed his points total to seven points with the winning tally over Colgate.
Defensively, the Blue Devils have not allowed a goal in 386:21 and posted shutouts against top-ranked Wake Forest and No. 19 Virginia during that span. Senior Brendan Fitzgerald anchors the defense in goal with a 0.73 goals against average and a .817 save percentage. Jan Trnka-Amrhein earned his first start of the year against Colgate and has a 1.27 goals against average and a .714 save percentage.
The Huskies make the trip to Durham after falling at home to Wisconsin in a midweek contest. They are 8-4-4 overall and 0-2-3 on opponents' home fields. Brad Horton leads the attack with six goals and an assist for 13 points. Ben Thomas and Drew Jeskey both have three tallies and one helper for seven points. The Huskies have 12 different players with at least one goal on the season. Joe Zimka anchors the defense with a 0.98 goals against average and a .730 save percentage.
Duke will play its final regular season game on Nov. 7 against ACC foe N.C. State at 7 p.m.
