DURHAM, N.C. ? Coming off a season-opening win over UNC-Wilmington last weekend, the Duke women's swimming and diving team will open the home schedule tomorrow, Oct. 25 as it hosts Campbell and ACC rival Miami for a 1 p.m. meet at Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
The women's team defeated UNCW by a final score of 180-112 last Saturday as they won a total of 12 events of the day the Seahawks' four.
The Blue Devils set eight pool records on the day, including the 100 backstroke (57.36) and 200 backstroke (2:04.70) for freshman Meghan Dywer, the 200 freestyle (1:52.35) for sophomore Ashley Twichell, the 1000 free (10:14.44) for junior Jackie Fasano, the 200 butterfly for junior Elizabeth Bellew, the one-meter (322.43) and three-meter dives (311.78) for freshman Abby Johnston, and the women's 400 medley relay event (3:50.87).
Johnston's one-meter performance was also a Duke school record. Three divers on the women's side ? Johnston, Julie Brummond, and Jessica Lyden ? set NCAA Zone qualifying cuts.
Dwyer and Johnston were double-event winners in the meet for the Blue Devils, while Duke took 1-2 finishes in the 1000 free and went 1-2-3 in the 200 free.
Miami, already 3-2 on the season, brings a strong squad into the meet, highlighted by a marquee diving program as the Hurricanes captured all three events ? one-meter, three-meter, and platform ? at last year's ACC Championships.
Campbell is 2-1 on the early season after earning wins over Georgia Southern (51-44) and Radford (90-5), and falling to Florida Gulf Coast (95-161).
The men's team ? as well as the Blue Devil women ? will be back in action next weekend against N.C. State and Maryland for a two-day competition. The first day of competition will take place at N.C. State at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31, followed by day two at Duke on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
