DURHAM, N.C. ? Coming off a key Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) victory over 15th-ranked Wake Forest on Thursday evening, the ninth-ranked Duke women's soccer team will hit the road this weekend for a 1:00 p.m., contest at Maryland in College Park, Md.
The Blue Devils enter the match with a 10-2-1 overall record and 2-1-1 mark in the ACC, while the Terrapins are 5-6-1, 1-3-0. Duke is currently ranked ninth in the SoccerTimes.com listing, while the Blue Devils are 10th (Soccer Buzz), 11th (NSCAA/adidas), 12th (Soccer America) and 13th (TopDrawerSoccer.com) in the other polls.
Duke will hit the road for the first time since the middle of September as the Blue Devils just completed a six-match homestand, which produced a 4-1-1 overall mark.
In the series with Maryland, Duke leads with a 12-10-4 mark, but the Blue Devils have not collected a win in College Park, Md., since the 2000 campaign with a 2-1 victory. Overall, Duke owns a 3-3-3 overall ledger at Maryland. Over the last two years, the match has ended in a 2-2 tie (2007) and 0-0 tie (2006).
Junior Elisabeth Redmond is coming off scoring two goals in the 3-1 victory over 15th-ranked Wake Forest on Thursday. Redmond, who is from Morristown, N.J., now owns 65 points on her career, which ranks eighth on Duke's all-time charts. Her 23 assists is tied for second in the career ledger, while her 10 goals this season is already tied for seventh on the Blue Devil single season list.
Redmond's 24 points on the season ranks second in the ACC, while her 10 goals is tied for second. She leads the ACC with five game-winning goals on the year. Senior Cassidy Powers ranks fourth in the conference in goals-against average (0.81).
The Blue Devils received a boost to the lineup on Thursday as junior Jane Alukonis and sophomore Meaghan FitzGerald returned from missing a combined nine games with injuries.
Duke will remain on the road following the match with Maryland as the Blue Devils will take on Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., on Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
