DURHAM, N.C. - The 16th-ranked Duke men's tennis team secured a 7-0 shutout victory over Boston College on Friday evening at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in ACC play. The Blue Devils are 8-1 on their home courts.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 4-15 (0-8 ACC), as Duke now controls the all-time series with BC, 2-0.
The Blue Devils came out strong in doubles competition, taking all three matches. At No. 1, the fifth-ranked duo of senior Joey Atas and junior David Goulet cruised to an 8-2 victory over Alex Rastorgouev and Sam Wagner, before junior Ned Samuelson and freshman Dylan Arnould combined for an 8-4 win over Brian Garber and Soma Kesthely at the No. 2 spot to clinch the point for Duke.
At No. 3, sophomore Kiril Dimitrov and senior Peter Rodrigues defeated Geoff Mueller and Thomas Nolan, 9-7.
Duke dominated singles competition, taking all six matches to account for the 7-0 final score.
Junior Alex Stone defeated Dennis Reardon, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot and Goulet posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Garber at No. 5, before 69th-ranked Atas defeated Wagner at the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-1, to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils.
No. 115 Rodrigues notched his 98th career win versus the Eagles, defeating Nolan, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 3 slot, as the senior picked up his sixth consecutive singles victory. His career record now stands at 98-44 and he is 12-5 in dual matches on the year, including a 6-1 mark against ACC opponents.
Also securing singles wins for the Blue Devils were 48th-ranked Dimitrov and Arnould.
“It was great to see our guys bounce back from a tough loss on Wednesday,” said Duke head coach Jay Lapidus. “Now we'll try to carry that momentum and winning attitude into tomorrow's match and throughout the rest of the regular season.”
Duke will take on 55th-ranked Maryland on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The Blue Devils will then hit the road for three straight contests to end the regular season with matches at North Carolina (April 11- 3 p.m.), Virginia (April 13, 3 p.m.) and Virginia Tech (April 15- 2 p.m.).
