The 37 points by Denver is the fewest points allowed in a season opener for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils trailed at the half, 27-25, as they hit 36.0 percent from the field.
In the second half, Duke's defense held Denver to only one field goal for the first 15:46. The Pioneers scored only 10 points in the second half. For a span of 14:06, Denver did not score a field goal in the second half.
Duke took its first lead off a three-pointer by Abby Waner at the 13:15 mark of the second half.
Junior Carrem Gay registered a career-high 12 rebounds.
All 12 Blue Devils played on the afternoon.
Duke's 57 points scored in the game was the fewest points scored in a season opener since the 1980-81 season.
In the homecoming for Abby and Emily Waner, the duo combined for 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal. Abby had 16 points, two rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes. Emily had three points, two rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore Keturah Jackson took her first career three-pointer and hit it in a key run for the Blue Devils in the second half.
Abby Waner now owns 327 career three-point field goals attempted which ranks eighth all-time on the Duke's list passing Krista Gingrich.
In her college debut, freshman Jasmine Thomas totaled seven points, three steals and one assist in 17 minutes. Freshman Krystal Thomas pulled down eight rebounds, had two points, three blocks and one steal in 15 minutes.
Duke outrebounded Denver by a 47-27 ledger.
The attendance of 6,635 for Denver was a new women's basketball record.
Duke will next travel to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the ESPNU Women's Basketball Invitational on Nov. 15 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Blue Devils will face South Florida in the first game of a doubleheader at 7:00 p.m. Tennessee and Oklahoma will compete in the second game. The site of the game is where the 2008 NCAA Final Four will be held.
