DURHAM, N.C. ? The Duke University men's golf team, ranked 13th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll, host the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic Sunday, Oct. 7 and Monday, Oct. 8. The Blue Devils welcome 14 teams from across the country to the Duke University Golf Course for the two-day 54-hole event. Action starts on Sunday with 36 holes of play beginning with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start. The first tee times for Monday's final round also begin at 7:45 a.m.
First-year head coach O.D. Vincent, who has led the Blue Devils to top-five finishes in two of three fall events, will have a lineup featuring junior Clark Klaasen, sophomore Adam Long, senior Michael Schachner and freshmen Matthew Pierce and Wes Roach for the tournament. In addition, Jeff Edelman, Andrew Giuliani, Justin Hare, Brian Kim, Bryce Mueller, Skip Murphy and Eric Schultz will be competing as individuals for Duke.
Klaasen and Long have anchored the Blue Devil lineup this fall posting 72.0 and 72.6 stroke averages, respectively. Klaasen has finished in the top 25 of all three fall events, including a pair of top 10 finishes. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native has posted nine straight counting rounds this season and has played five of nine rounds at even-par or better. Long has a pair of top 25 showings, including a tie for 12th at the Fighting Illini Invitational in Duke's last outing.
Schachner returns to the lineup with a 73.2 stroke average and a top 10 showing at the TOPY Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Championship. The Libertyville. Ill., native has three rounds of under-par golf on the season and a 71.5 stroke average in the final round of play. Pierce and Roach have both played in each of the past two tournaments, posting 74.0 and 74.8 stroke averages, respectively. Edelman (73.3) and Giuliani (75.3) have each played in one tournament this fall, while Hare, Kim, Mueller, Murphy and Schultz will be making their first appearances of the 2007-08 season.
Following the Duke Golf Classic, the Blue Devils will round out the fall season at the GCAA Collegiate Match Play Championship (Oct. 27-29).

Format: 54 holes ? 36 on Sunday beginning with a 7:45 a.m. shotgun start. 18 holes on Monday with teams beginning play on No. 1 at 7:45 and No. 10 at 7:54.
