DURHAM, N.C. ? Tim Jepson sat down with GoDuke.com for his senior profile. Jepson discusses his dream job, his plans for after graduation, the best advice he's ever received, plus much more.
GoDuke.com: What do you have in your ipod before a game?
Tim Jepson: I don't really listen to anything in specific. Right before we take the field I like to listen to something that gets my adrenaline going. I have a great techno playlist called “Dance Party” that usually gets the job done.
GD: What would your dream job be?
TJ: My dream job would be to run an orphanage somewhere in Africa with my wife. Play soccer with kids all day long and tell them about Jesus.
GD: What is the last non-school related book you read?
TJ: The last non-school related book I read was the Bible. I'm not too big a fan of reading. I would much rather look at a picture book.
GD: What are you planning on doing after graduation?
TJ: I'm getting married about three weeks after graduation so I will be living up in Ann Arbor, Mich., where my fianc?e goes to medical school.
GD: What is your advice to children?
TJ: Don't let anyone else define who you are. Be bold. Define yourself.
GD: What's the best concert you've ever attended?
TJ: I'm a big fan of the Christian artist Chris Tomlin. I got to see him with my babe for $5 at the NC State fair last year. The show was rockin', but I probably liked it more because it was so cheap.
GD: Why did you choose Duke?
TJ: I wanted to challenge myself. I knew that I would not only be at one of the best academic institutions in the country, but I would also be playing for one of the top teams in the nation. Also, I knew that being 3,000 miles from home would be a time for me to really mature and grow up ? or as they say, prepare me for the real world.
GD: What is your favorite place to play other than Duke?
TJ: My favorite place to play other than Duke is definitely Maryland. Their crowd is ridiculous. I love how their stadium is packed even during warm-ups. The atmosphere is so exhilarating and it pumps me up when everyone is talking crap to you. It's a true test of your mental toughness. Although the jokes about your mother can get under your skin, you gotta love playing there.
GD: What is your favorite movie?
TJ: My favorite movie is Disney's Brother Bear. Puts me to tears every time. The mooses (meese?) (meeses?) are hilarious with their Canadian accents. I can't find it right now though... I believe Greg Conforti took it from me.
GD: What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
TJ: I love to be outside. I enjoy doing anything active, especially with my fianc?e. Going for walks, runs, playing tennis, kayaking ? you know, that sort of thing.
GD: Being a few years removed from high school, what pops into your head when you think about it?
TJ: I will never forget how close my group of friends was. I loved going to all our school's sporting events and heckling the other team. I also will never forget winning the championship my senior year alongside my best friends who were also on the team.
GD: What is the best advice you have ever received?
TJ: Turn to Jesus.
GD: Who's had the most impact on your life and why?
TJ: I would have to say my entire family has impacted my life the most. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for their love and support. They have always been behind me 100% in everything I do. Words cannot describe how much confidence that gives me.
GD: Who's had the most influence on your athletic career?
TJ: I would have to say an old club coach of mine. He was an English guy who gave me a great deal of confidence in myself to know that I can play at the level I'm at today. Although there were times he could be the biggest jerk, it made me mentally tough to take criticism.
GD: What is your favorite food?
TJ: I'm the muffin man. I love muffins. Pumpkin, blueberry, banana-nut, apple cinnamon, you name it ? I'll eat it. I love eating them with yogurt too.
