DURHAM, N.C. - Nine home regular season games and exhibition participation in the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in Orlando, Fla., highlight Duke's 2008 men's lacrosse schedule released on Thursday by head coach John Danowski.
The Blue Devils open the 2008 campaign with a four game home stand, as Duke will take on Bucknell in the season-opener on February 16 and then host Vermont on February 23. Duke will face Maryland in its ACC opener on March 1 and remain at home to welcome former Blue Devil All-America and assistant coach Kevin Cassese and his Lehigh squad on March 4.
Duke travels to Baltimore to take on Loyola on March 8, and then returns to the friendly confines of Koskinen Stadium for three straight contests ? Presbyterian (March 11), North Carolina (March 15) and Colgate (March 18). The Blue Devils then sandwich a road game with Georgetown (March 22) and a neutral-site game with Dartmouth (March 29, Hempstead, N.Y.) around a home contest against Harvard (March 25). On April 5, Duke will host defending national champion Johns Hopkins, which defeated the Blue Devils by a 12-11 score in the 2007 NCAA title game.
The Blue Devils will hit the road the next two Saturdays with contests at Virginia (April 12) and Army (April 19) before returning to Charlottesville, Va., for the 2008 ACC Tournament on April 25 and 27. Duke will close out the regular season with a home tilt against St. John's on May 4.
The Duke men's and women's lacrosse teams will be in exhibition action at the end of January, as both squads are set to play the U.S. men's and women's national teams in the third annual US Lacrosse Champions Challenge. The Challenge is set for January 26-27, 2008, at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Blue Devil men's squad concluded the 2007 season with a 17-3 overall ledger, matching the NCAA record for wins in a season set previously by the 2005 Duke, 2006 Hofstra and 2006 Virginia squads. Duke captured the ACC regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the national title game for the second time in three seasons.
