Matt Zash, a former All-America midfielder at Duke, scored one goal and scooped up six ground balls to help the Philadelphia Barrage claim the 2006 Major League Lacrosse championship with a 23-12 victory over Denver on Sunday afternoon in Carson, Calif.
Zash, who was credited with 11 ground balls in Philadelphia's 17-10 semifinal win over Boston on Friday night, netted the first goal of the championship contest less than three minutes into the opening quarter. Philadelphia used a 4-0 run midway through the first period to take control of the game and the Barrage led 11-7 at intermission and 17-10 after three quarters en route to the 11-goal final difference.
Roy Colsey paced Philadelphia with six goals and two assists.
