The Blue Devils led 7-6 at halftime and came out firing after the break with five straight goals to double up the Tigers at 12-6. Katie Chrest led Duke in the run with two goals and an assist. Princeton rallied to score five of the next six goals with four different players finding the net. The Tigers cut the lead to two goals with 27 seconds left but that was as close as they would get as the Blue Devils pulled out a 13-11 victory.
Following a 20-minute weather delay to start the game, Duke struck first with a goal by Kristen Waagbo at the 27:21 mark, but they would not lead by more than two goals in the opening stanza as the two teams traded goals over the final 19 minutes of the half. With the score tied 6-6 Waagbo gave the Blue Devils the halftime lead with her third goal of the half with 19 seconds remaining. Carolyn Davis scored two first-half goals, including one in which she drove the length of the field for an unassisted tally following a media timeout.
The first half featured four free position goals with two by each team. Chrest and Leigh Jester each converted their attempts as Duke went 2-of-3 for the half. The Blue Devils held a 17-10 advantage in total shots in the first half and forced 13 turnovers whlie giving the ball away only six times.
Megan Huether helped Duke improve to 6-0 on the year with eight saves in the game. Chrest led the Blue Devils with three goals and two assists. Davis finished with a game-high four goals while Waagbo tallied three goals and an assist and Jester finished with a goal and two assists. Princeton dropped to 1-2 overall with both losses coming to ranked teams. Four players tallied two goals for the Tigers and Meg Murray finished with 11 saves in net.
The Blue Devils will have a week off before their next contest. They will return home to face a top-10 team for the fourth time when they host No. 8 Georgetown at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
