DURHAM, N.C. ? Seniors Monique Currie, Jessica Foley and Mistie Williams all scored in double figures and combined for 38 points as No. 1 Duke improved to 25-1 with a 93-51 victory over Virginia Tech Wednesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Currie and Williams each had game-highs with 14 points apiece and Foley came off the bench to add 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Williams added seven rebounds and four assists, Currie shot 5-of-11 from the field and Foley hit two three pointers and had three assists for the Blue Devils.
Helping their teammates on senior night, sophomore Laura Kurz shot 5-of-5 from the field for 11 points, freshman Abby Waner scored 10 points and had five assists, Alison Bales had eight points and seven blocks, Wanisha Smith had eight points while Lindsey Harding, Chante Black and Emily Waner each scored six.
Emily Waner hit both of her three point attempts and Harding added five assists for Duke.
After the score was tied at four apiece, Duke used a 25-5 run over the next nine minutes capped by three straight jumpers from Kurz to take a 29-9 lead. The game stayed at about a 20 point lead for Duke until midway through the second half, but Duke outscored Virginia Tech 39-16 over the game's last 12 minutes for a 93-51 victory.
Duke will now close out the regular season in yet another No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown with a game at North Carolina on Saturday. Both teams will go into the game with a 25-1 record and a 12-1 ACC mark. The winner of the game will get the ACC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed at next weekend's ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C.
