Virginia Tech got on the scoreboard first when Vick and Jeff King hooked up on a seven-yard touchdown pass. The scoring toss capped a seven play, 57-yard drive that took 3:43 off the clock. The Hokies pushed the advantage to 14-0 with just under two minutes remaining in the opening quarter on Roland Minor's 23-yard interception return for a touchdown.
At the 9:15 mark of the second quarter, Vick tossed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Josh Morgan to increase the lead to 21-0. On their opening possession of the third period, the Hokies drove 52 yards in four plays and Vick threw his third scoring pass of the day, finding David Clowney for a 35-yard strike. George Bell's three-yard touchdown run made the score 35-0 with 1:34 left in the quarter.
With 8:13 remaining in the game, Brandon Pace's 31-yard field goal put Virginia Tech ahead, 38-0.
In the second quarter, Duke cornerback John Talley registered his first interception of the year and the seventh of his career.
Duke remains at home next Saturday to entertain VMI at 1 p.m.
