HOLLy SPRINGS, N.C. - The Blue Devils continued their stellar season and finished with a two-round score of 560 (-16) and freshman Michael Schachner finished eight-under-par as Duke topped Wake Forest by one shot to win The Intercollegiate for the second year in a row. The victory was Duke's second in the last three tournaments and third of the 2004-05 season.
Schachner posted back-to-back rounds of 68 to finish in a tie for second place at eight-under par. Junior Ryan Blaum was only one shot behind (69-68 - 137) and finished in a tie for fourth. Junior Nathan Smith was the third Duke finisher, posting scores of 69 and 72 to end up in a tie for 11th at three-under-par. Sophomore Jake Grodzinsky finished in a tie for 33rd at two-over-par (74-72). Freshman Michael Quagliano rounded out the scores for the Blue Devils, shooting 77 and 75 (+8) to tie for 65th. Freshman Bryce Mueller, competing as an individual, played only the first round and posted a two-over-par 72.
The Blue Devils are hot at the right time, as they will head to the ACC Championship next weekend at Uwharrie Point, N.C.
