JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Duke men's golf team began its fall season over the weekend, finishing tied for 10th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, played at the par-72 Ridges Golf Club. Junior Nathan Smith posted a four-under-par 212, good for fifth place in the field of 79 players.
After shooting 74 in the second round, Smith rebounded with a four-under-par 68 in the final round, which tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament. Freshman Michael Quagliano was the second Blue Devil finisher, carding a two-over 71-72-75--218, good for a tie for 20th. Fellow freshman Michael Schachner went 78-75-73--226, 10-over par, and finished tied for 59th. Rounding out the scores for Duke were senior Tom Lefebvre (75-76-79--230), who tied for 68th, and junior Alex Wilson (79-75-77--231), who finished in a tie for 72nd.
Tennessee took home the title behind an eight-under-par 208 from Phillip Pettit, who won the individual title.
The Blue Devils return to action this weekend when they travel to Dalton, Ga. to compete in The Farm Invitational on Sept. 17-19.
