The Duke men's and women's swimming teams each fell to nationally ranked Virginia Saturday afternoon in the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion. The 11th-ranked Cavalier men posted a 145-83 victory over the Blue Devils, while the women, ranked 17th in the country, defeated Duke 124.5-111.5.
On the women's side, sophomore Katie Ness led the Blue Devils with a pair of victories, winning the 200 IM with a mark of 2:04.75 and coming in first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.82. In the 100 free, Julia Lewis placed first with a mark of 53.89, while Julie Granger swam in 54.71 to take second place.
Freshman Jackie Rodriguez, finishing third in the 1000 freestyle, broke her own school record in the event, clocking in at 10:13.00. Rodriguez also won the 100 breast, coming in at 1:05.30 and placed second in the 500 free, with a time of 5:01.06.
For the men, freshman Kevin Arthofer won the 100 breast in a time of 58.46. Billy Pearce finished second in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.76, while Teddy Helfers earned first place points in the 500 free, with a time of 4:43.70.
The Blue Devils return to action Saturday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Williamsburg, Va., for a non-conference match-up against William & Mary at 1:00 p.m.
