Duke junior Mike Dunleavy was named to the Academic All-America second team today.
Dunleavy, a first team All-America forward, All-ACC and All-ACC Defensive Team selection, garners Academic All-America honors for the first time after earning Academic All-District and ACC All-Academic Team honors last season.
A history major with a 3.26 grade point average, Dunleavy has excelled on and off the court. He is one of two players in the ACC ranked in the top 10 in seven statistical categories. He is third on the team in scoring (17.7 ppg) and second in rebounds (7.3 pg) and is tied for the team lead in steals (70) and blocked shots (18).
With Dunleavy earning Academic All-America honors, he becomes the second Duke player in two years to be named to the All-America, Academic All-America and ACC All-Defensive Teams. Shane Battier earned the distinction last year.
Dunleavy is one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Award, one of 30 midseason finalists for the Wooden Award and one of three finalists for ESPN the Magazine's Swing Forward of the Year.
