DURHAM, N.C. (March 5) - The Duke wrestling team will send two guys to the 2001 NCAA Wrestling National Championships in Iowa City, Iowa on March 15. Juniors Tommy Hoang and Tom Cass each received wildcard bids the NCAA announced on March 4. Hoang will wrestle in the 125-pound class and Cass will compete in the 184-pound class.

"I'm very pleased and proud of Tommy and Tom," said head coach Clar Anderson. "They have worked hard all season and we a big reasons for this team's success this season."
The Blue Devils set a school record for dual match victories in a season with 12. The previous high was 11 set back in 1989 and 1990. Hoang went 21-13 on the season while Cass had a season record of 30-6.
Each weight class has 10 automatic positions and eight wildcard openings giving each weight class 18 spots for competition. The last time the Blue Devils sent two wrestlers to the NCAA's in wrestling was 1998 when Matt Mapes and Chris Heckel each went. Hoang and Cass are the first two non-scholarship wrestlers from Duke to compete in the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
