Brown connected on three singles in a row as Robert Deeb, Rick Lynn, and Dan Kantrovitz all reached base. Kantrovitz's RBI single gave the Bears a 1-0 lead and Wes Goodner's error in center field allowed Lynn to score to make it 2-0. After Shaun Gallagher singled and stole second, Kantrovitz scored on Troy Caradonna's throwing error.
Brown (3-5) added another unearned run in the top of the fifth inning as Duke made three more errors in the inning. Kantrovitz recorded an RBI single as the Bears jumped out to the 4-0 lead.
Duke (11-17) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Goodner began the inning with a single and then eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut the Brown lead to 4-1.
