Blue Devil Wrestlers Defeat Gardner-Webb, 28-18

DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke wrestling team defeated Gardner-Webb on Wednesday 28-18 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils led the entire match which began at the 184-pound weight class. The Blue Devils are now 9-5 in dual matches this season. The last time Duke reached nine wins in a season was in 1992 when the Blue Devils went 10-7.

"I'm very pleased with the outcome tonight," said head coach Clar Anderson. "We got some strong performances from Frank Cornely, Tom Cass and Daegan Smith. I just think right now we are on track and I like the way things are going."

Highlights for the Blue Devils included junior Daegan Smith recording a pin at the 1:16 mark in the 197-pound class. Junior Tom Cass had a major decision at 184 pounds. Harry Clarke and Frank Cornely each recorded major decisions as well for the Blue Devils.

Duke is in action again this weekend, on Feb. 3, in Davidson, N.C., as they face Davidson and Greensboro in dual matches.
