Rennie on the signing of Cila and Wymer, "We are very pleased in the signing of Jordan and Danny. They are the top two forwards coming out of high school this year, who will be attending college."
Cila attended Jericho High School in Jericho, New York. He was a member of the Under-17 U.S. National Team, which played in the World Soccer Championship this past November. The team advanced to the semifinals before falling to Australia on penalty kicks.
"We are excited about having the top forward from the U.S. Under-17 National Team coming to Duke and adding to our long tradition of excellence," said Rennie. "Jordan has scored goals against some of the toughest competition in our country and internationally. We look forward to him continuing his play at Duke University."
As a junior Cila was a Parade All-American and he led his H.S. team to their first ever county finals. He attended Bradenton Academy from January 99 till December 99 as he was training with the U.S. National Team. Cila has been offered professional contracts to play overseas and in the United States, but decided to further her soccer career at Duke.
His father, Renato Cila, played soccer for 17 years professionally all over the world in Europe, Canada, and the United States. He is originally from Brazil.
Wymer is originally from Longwood, Fl. and attended Lake Mary H.S., where we has re-written the men's soccer record books. He currently holds Lake Mary records for single season scoring (35), all-time points (230), goals (96), and consecutive games scoring (11).
He was selected All-America, Seminole Conference Player of the Year, Edgewater All-Tournament, Central Florida featured athlete of the week in January, and captain of his club state championship team his senior year. He has led his high school to a top eight ranking the last three years.
"We are very pleased in signing of Danny," said Rennie. "He is an All-American who has broken all kinds of records at Lake Mary H.S. and joining his former teammate, Donald McIntosh, here at Duke. We look for him to continue the success he had in high school over to Duke."
The Blue Devils finished with a16-1-3 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past season. It was a remarkable season as Duke won their first ever ACC Tournament crown and was ranked No. 1 in the country for most of the season. Duke only loses two players off of the 1999 team and with Wymer and Cila mixed with the returning players, the Blue Devils should be ranked up with the best of them in 2000.
Listed below is the 2000 tentative Duke men's soccer schedule. The Blue Devils will travel to an early season tournament at the University of Connecticut and will host 10 matches at home in Koskinen Stadium.
