Duke head swimming coach Bob Thompson is in his 22nd season at the helm of the Duke swimming program. Thompson's squads have set over 50 school records during his tenure while placing individuals in the NCAA and U.S. Swimming Championships. He also tutored Olympic gold medalist Nancy Hogshead.
Thompson first came to Duke in 1978 from the U.S. Naval Academy where he had been the assistant coach for two years and the head plebe coach for three years from 1975-1978. At Navy, Thompson was the head coach for the Navy juniors program and coached future Olympic gold medalist Theresa Andrews to her first Junior National title. The New Kensington, Pa. native swam competitively for Springfield College in Massachussetts. After graduation, Thompson coached the New Kensington YMCA for four years and also the high school team the final three seasons.
Thompson is married to the former Jacqueline Zimmerman. The couple has two daughters- Tracy and Jill.
Whitney Greene
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Second Season
Whitney Greene enters her second season as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Duke swimming and diving programs. Greene is responsible for identifying, contacting and screening prospective student-athletes. In addition, she arranges the campus visits and the active recruitment of select student-athletes.
Greene, a former Blue Devil freestyler and letterwinner, also served as captain for the 1996-97 Duke squad.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in mathematics and a minor in French in 1997. She also was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Following graduation, Greene spent a year working for Solomon Brothers, Inc. in New York City.
A native of Silver Spring, Md., Greene is single and resides in Durham.
Kerri Norman
Assistant Coach/Diving
Second Season
Kerri Norman begins her second season as the Duke diving coach. A former Blue Devil diver from 1991-1995, Norman was a three-time letterwinner. She also served as a senior co-captain.
Norman received a bachelor's degree in history and a master's in teaching from Duke. Norman teaches 11th and 12th grade U.S. History and psychology at the Durham Magnet Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
The former Kerri Lindland married David Norman this summer.
