Preston Pehrson joined the Duke Football staff in January 2026 and serves as the assistant general manager.Â
Â
Pehrson brings to Durham more than 15 years of experience in the industry. He joins the Blue Devils after a three-year stint (2023-24-25) at Stanford as its director of recruiting and player personnel.Â
Â
Pehrson oversaw the entire recruiting staff at Stanford and helped bring in three top-40 recruiting classes during his time. Youth was an important part of Stanford's success from 2023-25, as was its increase in usage of the transfer portal. Pehrson helped bring in 17 transfers in advance of the 2025 season, more than Stanford had during the combined history of the program. Three of his transfers, Jay Green, Clay Patterson and CJ Williams, were named to All-ACC teams in 2025. Pehrson managed Stanford football’s NIL and revenue share budget and negotiated NIL contracts between the university and student-athletes.Â
Â
Before arriving at Stanford, Pehrson spent the 2022 campaign as the general manager at Connecticut and three seasons at Texas Tech (2019-20-21). Over the last eight years in each of his stops he has overseen gameday analytics.Â
Â
While at UConn, Pehrson was responsible for bringing Brandon Bouyer-Randle from Texas Tech with Bouyer-Randle becoming an NFL undrafted free agent signee in 2023. With the Red Raiders, Pehrson oversaw the recruiting operation and coordinated the football program’s efforts in attracting potential student-athletes. Pehrson was instrumental in the initial evaluation process and worked on roster and scholarship management.Â
Â
Since 2023, the Red Raiders have had five NFL Draft selections, four of which Pehrson was crucial to their arrival in Lubbock with Tyree Wilson (1st Round, 2023 NFL Draft), Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (4th Round, 2024 NFL Draft), Caleb Rogers (3rd Round, 2025 NFL Draft) and Tahj Brooks (6th Round, 2025 NFL Draft).  Pehrson also aided in the Red Raiders’ additions of Tyler Shough (2nd Round, 2025 NFL Draft) and Kobee Minor (7th Round, 2025 NFL Draft).Â
Â
In addition at Texas Tech, Pehrson directed the Red Raiders’ summer recruiting camps, the student-athlete enrollment process and was responsible for game day analytics.
Â
Prior to his time with the Red Raiders, Pehrson served as the director of player personnel at the University of Houston. He held the same position at Navy for the previous six months, after spending two seasons as the recruiting coordinator in Annapolis.Â
Â
As the director of player personnel at Navy and Houston, Pehrson managed the recruiting process which included, organizing official and unofficial visits and setting up weekly and monthly recruiting trips for the coaching staffs to visit and evaluate prospects. He was responsible for the outbound marketing efforts via social media for both schools to attract potential student-athletes. With Houston, Pehrson helped to land NFL Draft selections Grant Stewart (7th Round, 2021 NFL Draft), Logan Hall (2nd Round, 2022 NFL Draft), Clayton Tune (5th Round, 2023 NFL Draft) and Patrick Paul (2nd Round, 2024 NFL Draft).Â
Â
Prior to moving into a personnel position, Pehrson spent four seasons at Georgia Tech, three as a graduate assistant coach and the other as an offensive quality control assistant. During this time, he was responsible for helping coach the offensive line, specifically the tackles. The Yellow Jackets were 33-21 during his four seasons, which featured four postseason appearances and a pair of bowl victories, including a 49-34 win over Mississippi State in the 2014 Capital One Orange Bowl.
Â
Pehrson was a graduate assistant at Lamar University in 2011 and worked as the outside linebackers coach and assistant tight ends coach at Houston Christian High School during the 2010 season.
Â
He attended Jacksonville University as a baseball student-athlete for two years before transferring to the University of Texas for one year. He finished his playing career at Towson, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2009. He later received his master’s degree in 2014 from Georgia Tech in building construction and facility management.
Â
Pehrson was selected in the 47th round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. He played two seasons in the minor league system before joining the coaching profession.
Â
He is the son of Marty and Dale Pehrson. Dale retired in 2018 after a 40-year coaching career within collegiate football. Preston and his wife, Kim, are parents to a daughter, Austin, and a son, Tuff.
