Kyle Seger joined the Duke Athletics staff in January 2026 and serves as an associate director of sports performance and the head of football applied sports science.
He arrived in Durham after four years (2022-23-24-25) as an Associate Development Coach at LSU. While with the Tigers, he worked with the weight room staff in implementing a year-round training plan to physically and mentally prepare the team for the demands of the game. In his four years at LSU, the football program combined to win 36 games along with victories in the Citrus, ReliaQuest and Kinder's Texas Bowls. LSU also captured the 2022 SEC Western Division title.
Prior to joining LSU, Seger spent the 2021 season at the University of Notre Dame. In that lone season, the Irish went 11-1 in the regular season and earned a birth to the Fiesta Bowl. As an assistant strength and conditioning coach, Seger specialized in a movement screening system that analyzed the biomechanics of each athlete to help mitigate the risk of injury.
Seger spent the 2019 and 2020 season at Georgia Tech where he worked as a player development coach with the football program.
Before his time with Georgia Tech, Seger spent two years (2017-2018) as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning at Temple University. While at Temple, Seger aided in the development of several players who went on to play in the NFL and oversaw walk-on lift groups. He also worked extensively with sports science modalities, specifically utilizing GPS technology. The Owls competed in back-to-back bowl games in his only two seasons on staff in Philadelphia.
In the spring of 2017, Seger interned with University of South Carolina Strength and Conditioning where he worked with football and track and field. In the fall of 2016, Seger completed an internship with the Ball State Olympic Strength and Conditioning Staff working with numerous sports.
Prior to coaching, Seger was a three-year letterwinner at Ball State as a defensive end. Beginning his career as a walk-on, Seger worked all the way to earning a scholarship his senior season, garnering the Paul Schudel Strength and Conditioning Award that year. While at Ball State, was an active member of the Exercise Science Club, with which he helped plan undergraduate activities and participated in professional development seminars.
Seger is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) and is also first aid and CPR certified through the American Heart Association.
A Huntingburg, Indiana, native, Seger attended Southridge High School where he was an all-state football and baseball player his senior year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Ball State in 2016 and added a master’s degree in education from Temple in 2019.
