Brewer previously worked under Manny Diaz at the University of Miami, where he spent two seasons (2020-21) as a senior offensive quality control coach.
The 2025 offensive season Brewer helped author is one of the finest in Duke history as it helped pave the way for the program’s first outright ACC Championship since 1962, a Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl victory, nine victories in consecutive years for the second time in Duke history and a sweep of in-state ACC opponents for the second year in a row. The offensive unit set the program record for total touchdowns scored (63), points scored (484) and pass efficiency (152.53) and became the first in school history to have a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard receiver and 1,000-yard rusher.
Brewer’s work with quarterback Darian Mensah rewrote the Blue Devil record book as Mensah set Duke single-season highs for passing yards (3,973), pass completions (334), pass attempts (500), passing touchdowns (34), pass efficiency (153.59) and touchdown-to-interception ratio (5.67-1). In addition, Mensah set or matched Blue Devil single-season standards for games with one or more touchdown passes (14), games with two or more touchdown passes (12), games with three or more touchdown passes (6), most consecutive games with two or more touchdown passes (14), completion-to-interception ratio (55.67-1), attempt-to-interception ratio (83.33-1), games with 20 or more pass attempts without an interception (8), games with 30 or more pass attempts without an interception (6), consecutive pass attempts without an interception (211), games with 100 or more passing yards (14), games with 200 or more passing yards (12) and wins by a starting quarterback (9).
Pairing Mensah with Duke’s productive ground attack produced the first season in program history with two or more backs having 10 or more touchdowns each with Anderson Castle (12) and Nate Sheppard (11). Sheppard established the school single-season freshman record for rushing yards with 1,132 as well as the rushing touchdowns by a rookie mark.
The Blue Devils finished the year ranking among the NCAA leaders in fourth down conversion percentage (.762; 2nd), passing yards per game (283.8; 7th), total first downs (316; 12th), points per game (34.6; 16th), team passing efficiency (153.6; 19th), completion percentage (.664; 25th) and total offense (423.5; 25th).
In Durham in 2024, Brewer mentored quarterback Maalik Murphy to completing 254-of-421 (.603) passes for 2,933 yards with 26 touchdowns. Brewer also guided Henry Belin IV through the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. Belin IV completed 25-of-44 (.568) passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason contest. His 25 completions are tied for the sixth most by a Duke quarterback in a bowl game in program history while his 44 attempts and two touchdown passes are each the fourth most.
Prior to arriving in Durham, Brewer served a second stint on staff at Southern Methodist University as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons (2022-23). He was elevated his final year to co-offensive coordinator. While in Dallas, Brewer helped the Mustangs to an 18-9 overall record and a 13-3 mark in American Athletic Conference (AAC) play. SMU earned consecutive bowl invitations and claimed the 2023 AAC title following a 26-14 victory over Tulane.

Seven of those scores came in the opening frame, to tie an NCAA record for touchdown passes in a half. He became the only player in FBS history to have seven passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in a half. He joined Lamar Jackson (vs. Charlotte, 2016) as the only FBS players with eight touchdowns responsible for in a half.
