Amy Olsen begins her first season as an assistant coach of the cross country and track and field teams. Her primary emphasis will be working with the women's distance squad.
Prior to arriving at Duke, Olsen spent five years as women's head coach at Charleston Southern University. Her teams found success in the Big South Conference with numerous All-Conference performers and one NCAA qualifier in the 3,000m steeplechase. Before arriving in Charleston, Olsen spent two years at Northern Arizona University earning a master's degree in exercise science while serving as a graduate assistant coach. At NAU she helped coach the men's team to an NCAA runner-up finish and the women's team to a 10th place finish in cross country.
Olsen completed a teaching degree in physical education at Eastern Kentucky University in 1995. During her tenure at EKU, Olsen earned nine championship titles in the Ohio Valley Conference for cross country and track. In 1995, Olsen was named among 10 finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year.
Married last fall to Hans Olsen, women's head tennis coach at N.C. State, the couple reside in Raleigh and are expecting their first child in September.
