Former Duke standout Virginia (Crotty) Danowski joined the Blue Devils as a volunteer assistant coach prior to the start of the 2015 campaign.
In 2015, Danowski helped guide Duke to a 16-5 ledger and a trip to the NCAA semifinals, the first for the program since 2011, her senior year. Five Blue Devils garnered All-South Region and All-ACC honors while senior attacker Kerrin Maurer was chosen for first team All-America distinction.
Danowski returned to her alma mater after previously coaching at Elon from 2012-14. She served as an assistant alongside head coach Josh Hexter, and was involved heavily in recruiting while directing the Phoenix to an 8-9 ledger in their inaugural season of play.
A 2011 graduate of Duke, Danowski guided the women’s lacrosse program to a pair of national semifinal appearances during her career, including as a team captain her final year. As a member of the Blue Devil attack, she ranked fifth on the squad in points her junior (21) and senior (32) seasons. She also posted a career-best 15 assists and 12 draw controls during the 2011 campaign and tallied four multi-goal and multi-assist games.
Danowski was a two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll as a sociology major. In addition, she received a certificate from the university in Markets and Management Studies.
