One of three Duke freshmen to earn a spot on the NCAA Championship qualifying team in cross country, Schmid began her season with a 7th place finish at the Fordham Invitational. She ran varsity in every race as a freshman, one of only two Blue Devils to do so. Schmid's best track performance was an 18:22.82 for 5,000 meters at the Duke Invitational.
