Hofmann, a native New Yorker, debuted for Duke in familiar Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx at the Fordham Invitational where her 6th place finish was fourth on the Duke team. By the end of the her first collegiate season, Hofmann was one of three freshmen in the Duke top seven who advanced to the NCAA Championships. Indoors, Hofmann, who placed 3rd in the prestigious Millrose Games High School Mile in 2000, ran the open mile in 5:07.96 and ran an anchor 1,600-meter leg in 5:04 to help the Blue Devils qualify for the ECAC meet. Hofmann also was on the season's fastest 4x800 meter relay for Duke that qualified for the ECAC indoor meet with a time of 9:14.33 in Boston.
