Prior to Duke: Swam for Loyola Academy and the NASA Wildcat Aquatics… Named All-Conference as a freshman… Earned All-State honors and MVP Swimming and Diving recognition as a sophomore… In his junior year, he garnered All-America honors in the 200 medley relay, receiving the Wes Mayfield Award and repeating as MVP Swimming and Diving… As a senior, earned All-America recognition in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, and was named Swimming and Diving Rambler of the Year.
