Nicole Schaffer became the volunteer assistant coach in September 2020 before moving into the player development role in 2023.Â
She primarily works with the pitching staff – helping in the bullpen with player performance, while assisting with technology and day-to-day operations. This role allows Schaffer to be the glue between the coaches and players, both on and off the field.
Schaffer, formerly Sleith, was a four-year letterwinner and three-time Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year at Robert Morris (2012-15). Schaffer most recently served as the pitching coach at Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania from 2016-19. She’s also coached travel ball and at the high school level.Â
During her collegiate career, the four-time NFCA All-Region selection boasted a 1.70 career earned run average with 27 shutouts through 806.1 innings. The left-handed pitcher recorded 932 strikeouts and collected 78 wins as a Colonial. She concluded her time at Robert Morris atop the record book in wins and strikeouts.Â
Academically, Schaffer was a NFCA Scholar Athlete and named to the Dean’s List every semester as well as the NEC Academic Honor Roll each year. She earned two degrees from RMU in 2015– a bachelor’s in biomedical engineering and master’s in engineering management. While completing her degrees, she was an undergraduate pitching coach for RMU in the fall of 2015.
