Tyler Miles joined Duke’s athletic staff in January 2022, and serves as an assistant director of sports performance, working primarily with the football program.
Miles comes to Durham after spending the 2021 season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Miami. While in Coral Gables, he worked primarily with the football program, assisting with programming of lifts and runs. Miles was also responsible for monitoring the teams’ catapult tracking and velocity-based training systems.
Prior to that, he spent two years (2019-20) at Boost Performance in Nashville, working primarily with athletes on combine training, and National Football League (NFL) and college offseason workouts. During his time there, he assisted in training and prepping 25-30 athletes for their NFL combine and pro day. In his two years, Miles had 10 athletes selected in the NFL Draft and 30-plus athletes sign NFL free agent contracts.
In that same stretch, he worked at Tennessee State University as the head strength coach, working primarily with the football and volleyball programs as well as the track throwers. Along with strength and conditioning training, Miles was responsible for athlete rehab and the return to play process.
He also made stops at Northwestern State University as an assistant strength coach (2019), the University of Tennessee as a strength and conditioning intern (2018) and the University of South Carolina as a strength and conditioning intern (2017). In addition, he worked with the Salt Lake City Stallions as an assistant strength coach and with the New York Jets as a paid intern for a brief time in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
Miles earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Tennessee in 2018. He holds a certification as a sports performance coach through USA weightlifting and as a strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In addition, he is CPR/AED certified.
