Former 2019 Duke captain Tre Hornbuckle joined the Blue Devil coaching staff in July of 2020 and serves as a graduate assistant coach working primarily with the defense.
A three-time recipient of Duke’s Sonny Falcone Iron Duke Award and two-time Academic All-ACC selection, Hornbuckle wrapped up his impressive four-year career having played in 49 games, making 20 starts. The defensive end compiled 128 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, three caused fumbles, one fumble recovery, one pass breakup and 11 quarterback pressures throughout his tenure as a Blue Devil. In 1,796 career snaps, Hornbuckle owned 16 games with 3+ tackles, including a career-high 12 stops against Army West Point in 2017. He tallied multiple tackles for loss in six games with a career-high 3.5 versus N.C. Central in 2017.
During his four years with the Blue Devils, Hornbuckle helped Duke to 24 wins, two bowl game appearances (2017 Quick Lane Bowl and 2018 Walk-On’s Independence Bowl) and two bowl victories.
Hornbuckle, who was an Academic All-ACC pick in 2017 and 2019, graduated from Duke in May, 2020, with a degree in sociology and a certificate in markets and management.
