Nicholas Sewak joined the Duke coaching staff in January 2022, and serves as a offensive quality control coach, working primarily with the tight ends. Sewak also worked with the quarterbacks (2022) during his time in Durham.
In his opening year with the Blue Devils, Sewak helped mentor quarterback Riley Leonard to All-ACC honors. Leonard completed 250-of-392 (.638) passes for 2,967 yards with 20 touchdowns, while leading the team in rushing with 699 yards on 124 carries (5.64) and 13 touchdowns during his first season as Duke’s starter. In the ACC, Leonard ranked third in total offensive yards per game (282.00), third in pass attempts, third in pass completions, third in total points responsible for, tied for third in scoring, fourth in pass completion percentage, fourth in passing yards per game (228.23), fifth in touchdowns passes, and fifth in passing efficiency. In addition, he set school single-season records for touchdowns responsible for (33), most games with one-plus touchdown pass (12), touchdown-to-interception ratio (3.33-1), and pass completion-to-interception ratio (41.67-1).
Sewak came to Durham after spending the 2021 season as an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Memphis. Working under offensive coordinator and current Duke offensive coordinator Kevin Johns, Sewak helped the Tigers finished last season ranked second in the AAC in passing offense (298.8), third in offensive yards (435.8), third in first downs (22.5), and third in third down conversion percentage (71-of-174 for 40.8 percent).

Prior to that, Sewak spent two seasons (2019-20) as an offensive graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee, working primarily with the offensive line.

Sewak began his coaching career at the University of North Carolina Charlotte as an offensive graduate assistant for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. During his time there, he worked with the offensive line, tight ends, and special teams units.

A native of Statesboro, Ga., Sewak lettered one season as a long snapper for the Georgia Southern University football program. He was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List (3.5 GPA or higher) selection and earned Dean’s List or President’s List honors each semester.
Sewak graduated from Georgia Southern in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He later added a master’s in higher education administration from the University in 2017. His father, Mike, served as the head coach at Georgia Southern from 2002-05 and helped guide the Eagles to a Southern Conference Championship in 2002 and 2004 and was also named the SoCon Coach of the Year in 2004.Â
