John Riley joined the Duke football staff in June 2022, and currently serves as the director of football coaching technology.

Riley came to Durham after a three-year stint (2019-21) at North Dakota State University as its director of football video operations. While in Fargo, he directed the daily operations of the NDSU football video department and led a staff of undergraduate students. Riley also managed DVSport hardware and software as well as the XOS Open Exchange and DVSport Exchange platforms. In addition, Riley served as the program’s information technology liaison.

During Riley’s time with the Bison, NDSU claimed the 2019 and 2021 NCAA Division I Football FCS titles. He was named the Collegiate Sports Video Association (CSVA) 2020-21 FCS Video Coordinator of the Year as well.

Prior to his time with NDSU, Riley served four seasons (2013-16) as the football video coordinator at Western Kentucky University, where he earned the CSVA Conference USA Video Coordinator of the Year award in 2015.

He also brings experience from his time at Mississippi State University as the assistant athletics video coordinator (2010-13) and his alma mater Arkansas State University as the football video coordinator (2008-09).

Riley graduated from Arkansas State in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He added a master's degree in business administration from the University in December 2009. He and his wife, Ashley, have two children, Nile and Amelia.
